A new firmware update for Surface Pro 4 brings with it improved reliability and compatibility of the two-in-one with the new Type Covers that were launched alongside the new Surface Pro.
Users of Surface Pro 4 may have noticed that their new Type Cover works just fine with their two-in-one, but the new update that appears as “Surface – Keyboard – 1.1.504.0” in Windows Update improves both reliability and compatibility of the new Type Covers.
The new Type Covers may look very similar to the previous models, though the new accessories should provide a better typing experience thanks to a new scissor mechanism and a full 1.3 mm of key travel between the keys. Moreover, the trackpad has also been improved with better gesture support and accuracy.
When Microsoft announced the Surface Pro in May it also unveiled a couple of new Type Covers to go along with its latest Windows 10 hybrid device. And, now, the software giant is making sure that the keyboards work with the Surface Pro 4 as well.
The update is rolling out now via Windows Update for Surface Pro 4 users. Based on the information that Microsoft provides on its site, there are no changes related to security, connectivity, performance or battery life. There’s no sign of a similar update for the Surface Pro 3 just yet. Still, even without a new firmware update, the new Type Covers should work on the Surface Pro 3 just fine.
